У статті розглянуто варіанти теоретичної концептуалізації феномену комунікації як важливого наукового підґрунтя соціологічного дослідження міжкультурної взаємодії в умовах прикордоння. Крізь призму міждисциплінарного підходу розкрито ключові семантичні віхи процесу становлення сучасного трактування феномену комунікації. Розглянуто магістральні напрями наукового теоретизування комунікації ХХ–ХХІ століть. Запропоновано поділ теорій комунікації на дві групи (теорії дискурсу й теорії поля). Окреслено монодисциплінарний і крос-дисциплінарний підходи концептуалізації феномену комунікації. Зроблено висновок про те, що в площині наукового теоретизування феномену комунікації виразно присутній технократичний й інтеракціоністський підходи. Аргументовано, що саме теоретичні постулати інтеракціоністського підходу оптимальні для опису явищ міжкультурної взаємодії на прикордонні. Підсумовано, що найбільшим евристичним потенціалом для пояснення цілісної картини комунікативної взаємодії в умовах прикордоння, на наше переконання, володіють ідеї Г. Гарфінкеля, І. Гофмана, Дж. Хоманса та П. Блау, Ч. Бергера та Р. Калабреса, В. Гудікунста, Ф. Джабліна, Е. Холла, П. Бурдьє, Р. Якобсона та Ю. Лотмана, Ф. Фуко, Дж. Гербнера. Підкреслено, що аналіз поняття «комунікація» належить до основоположних дискурсів соціально-гуманітарного знання, адже будь-яка соціальна дія комунікативна за своєю суттю, позаяк спрямована на отримання певних ефектів зворотного зв’язку. Втім, наголошено, що у вузькому сенсі відлік історичної траєкторії поняття «теорія комунікації» доречно розпочинати з початку минулого століття (Р. Парк, Ч. Кулі, Дж. Уотсон, У. Ліппман та інші). Запропоновано широке й вузьке трактування комунікації. В широкому розумінні предметом вивчення теорії комунікації є міждисциплінарна площина комплексу комунікативних знань, а у вузькому трактуванні предметом вивчення теорії комунікації постають механізми, процеси та структури інформаційного обміну. Окреслено перспективи подальших досліджень на основі представлених у публікації теоретичних розробок, зокрема в розрізі молодіжних груп і спільнот прикордоння Східної й Центральної Європи.

Paper considers the process of theoretical conceptualization of communication as a substantial scientific basis for sociological study of intercultural interaction at the borderlands. This analysis highlights the key semantic milestones of the formation process of communication’s modern interpretation. The key scientific approaches of communication conceptualization in ХХ–ХХІ centuries are considered. The division of communication theories into two groups (discourse theory and field theory) is proposed. Monodisciplinary and cross disciplinary approaches to conceptualizing the phenomenon of communication are outlined. It is concluded that in the scientific theorizing of the phenomenon of communication there are clearly technocratic and interactionist approaches. It is argued that the theoretical issues of the interactionist approach are essential for describing the phenomena of intercultural interaction at the borderlands. It is concluded that the greatest gnoseological potential for explaining the whole issue of communicative interaction at the borderlands area, in our opinion, have G. Garfinkel, I. Hoffman, J. Homans & P. Blau, C. Berger & R. Calabrese, W. Gudykunst, F. Jablin, E. Hall, P.Bourdieu, R. Jacobson & J. Lotman, M. Foucault, J. Gerbner ideas. It is emphasized that the analysis of the concept of “communication” belongs to the fundamental discourses of socio-humanitarian knowledge, as long as any social action is communicative in nature, as it is aimed at obtaining certain effects of feedback. However, it is emphasized that in the narrow sense the counting of the historical trajectory of the concept of “communication theory” should be started from the beginning of the XX century (R. Park, C. Cooley, J. Watson, W. Lippman etc.). A broad and narrow interpretation of communication is proposed. In a broad sense, the subject of study of communication theory is the interdisciplinary area of the complex of communicative knowledge, and in a narrow interpretation, the subject of study of communication theory are the mechanisms, processes and structures of information exchange. The prospects for further research are outlined taking into account the theoretical issues presented in the publication. In particular, further youth studies at the borderlands areas of Eastern and Central Europe are considered.
